Watermark PDF

Mark a document as a draft, a copy or confidential. Add a text watermark diagonally, across the centre or along the bottom of every page or selected pages.

More settings

A text watermark discourages casual reuse but can be removed by someone determined. It is not a security feature.

How to use the Watermark PDF

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Type the watermark text and pick where it should sit.
  3. Adjust colour, opacity or pages under More settings if needed.
  4. Select Add watermark and download.

Choosing a watermark that stays readable

A watermark should be noticed without hiding the document. Around 20 to 30% opacity works for diagonal text across a page of writing; go lighter on pages with images. For a discreet ownership line, choose “Small, along the bottom” and use your name or company.

Questions about the Watermark PDF

Can a watermark be removed?

A determined person with PDF editing software can remove it. Treat a watermark as a label and a deterrent, not as protection.

Which characters can I use?

English and Western European letters, digits and common punctuation. Other scripts are not supported by the built-in PDF font.
